The Town of Fort White was originally chartered by the State of Florida on June 29, 1957. The charter is currently being updated and has been filed with the State of Florida to be presented in the next legislative session of 2021.
The municipal government provided by the charter is knows as the "Mayor-Council Government". All powers of the Town are vested in an elective body referred to as the "Town Council".
